global warming

Global warming is an issue that is often on my mind. Global warming is a problem that potentially destroy the place we all live yet many people dont care. The new national poll finds that 77 percent of Americans believe global warming is happening and, of those, 46 percent believe it is caused by humans.(http://www.foxnews.com) There are many things people can do to reduce their CO2 emissions. There are a few online sites which can estimate your household's CO2 emissions and can tell you how to reduce them.(http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/emissions/ind_calculator.html) Take this quiz and calculate your co2 emissions.

Men and Women today

People often say they believe they should treat men and women equal. People want to beleve that women are treated equally to men. If many of these people stepped back and looked at how they treat both sexes they would realize they are treated differently in todays society. For example, it is a well known rule among men that they should not hit women but the rule does not always apply the other way around. It's not that women deserve more or less respect than men its just they should be treated differently. I believe women should be treated differently than men because they are different than men. This applies to things such as talking to women. For example, men often talk about their bodily functions openly with other men but if a man mentioned such things to a woman it would typically be frowned apon.

moment of silence

I disagree the recently passed law requiring a moment of silence in public schools. This required moment of silence reminds me of when i was younger and my parents used to send me to my room. My parents would tell me to go to my room and think about what i have done. In my room i would play with my toys or sit down and think about how much i disliked my parents at the time, not thinking rationally about the situation that sent me there. This relates to the moment of silence because i find that the people who created the law knew that most kids would not use this time to actually reflect on their day. I believe that the government who made this law made it because it is a sneaky way to slip religion into the schools. Because there is a moment of silence/ prayer, in some areas in some time could evolve into prayer. it is a slippery slope to introduce religion into public schools.

Crucible

In class today we began discussing the importance of the title of the Crucible. in order to make connections between the book and the title, we must know what it means.

Though we have not read far into the book, i can make a good guess at which of these meanings will be most relevent in the book. #3 is "a severe, searching for test or trial." Before reading i knew this book was about the salem witch trials, and the definition instills that.
